Scholarship Applications Available Online (1/29/09)
(application
deadline March 31). AFT's 2009 Robert G. Porter Scholars Program
offers two types of scholarships: four-year, $8,000 postsecondary
scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are dependents
of an AFT member, and one-time, $1,000 grants for AFT members to
pursue courses related to their field of work. The scholarship program
was established by the AFT executive council in 1992 to honor the
contributions of Porter, the union's longtime secretary-treasurer,

Plus Scholarship Program (1/10/09) (application
deadline January 31) The Union Plus Scholarship Program is
open to students attending or planning to attend a four-year college
or university, a community college, or a technical college or trade
school. Members of unions participating in any of the Union Plus
programs, and their spouses and dependent children, are eligible.
Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $4,000. Applications are
